Time4Happiness - Happiness & positivity workshops in South Tyneside
What does happiness really mean to you?
Not the fleeting kind that comes from a nice cup of tea or a sunny afternoon, but the deeper sense of contentment, purpose and joy that makes life feel meaningful.
During our Time4Happiness workshops, we explore what brings genuine wellbeing into our lives through storytelling, self-reflection and mindful awareness.
Our sessions at The Barnes Institute in Whitburn village welcome local residents from across South Tyneside – South Shields, Cleadon, Marsden, East Boldon and beyond – who want to understand themselves better and discover new ways to cultivate happiness.
A story-led approach to understanding happiness
Rather than sitting through lectures about what you "should" do to be happy, Time4Happiness takes a gentler approach.
Each week, we follow the fictional journey of a young boy along The Camino, navigating life's ups and downs – the kind of everyday challenges we all face.
Through his story, we explore 12 different topics that help us change our perspective on situations and understand the genuine power of positive thinking. We learn to see things from a different angle and respond with more kindness, both to ourselves and others.
Laura guides each session with reading, meditation, gentle discussion and self-inquiry. There's no pressure to share if you don't want to – just being present and reflecting is enough.
But for those who do want to talk, you'll find an open, non-judgemental space where your thoughts and experiences are valued.
Curiosity over judgement
Here's what makes Time4Happiness different from other personal development or positive psychology courses in the North East: we approach everything from a place of curiosity and compassion rather than criticism. Instead of asking yourself harsh questions like "What's wrong with me?" or "Why can't I just be happy?", you'll learn to wonder with genuine interest: "I wonder why I reacted that way?" or "What might have been going on for me in that moment?" This little shift in thinking creates space for honest insight and growth, without the shame and pressure that so often get in the way.
Each week's theme touches on different aspects of happiness and wellbeing.
You might explore gratitude, resilience, relationships, purpose, letting go, or how we talk to ourselves. The beauty of following a character's journey is that it gives us a safe way to examine our own patterns and reactions without feeling exposed.
